Obituary for James Morgan "Jim" Mooney
James Morgan Mooney of Newtown died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday May 31st, 2016 at the age of 74.
Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years Adele Johnson Mooney of Newtown; his daughter Adele Mooney McCarthy, and her husband Robert and children Morgan, Bridget, and Robert of Roxbury; son James Mooney, and his wife Julie and children James and Jacqueline of Newtown; daughter Kathleen Mooney Cardillo and her husband Phil and son Liam of Trumbull; niece Regina Anne Barnard Bobroske, husband Ted and children Elizabeth and Teddy of Easton.
Jim began his career as a Bridgeport police officer, became a CT State Trooper and rose to the rank of Captain. Jim also served as the head of security for the University of Bridgeport. He devoted much of his life in service to the town of Newtown including the roles of Second Selectman, serving on the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Association, and as chief of the Ambulance Corps of Volunteers. Later in life Jim was asked to serve as a member of the board for the Newtown Ambulance which included oversight of the construction of the new garage.
Jim was most proud of his role as husband, father and grandfather.
Friends and family may call on Friday June 3rd from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00pm at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main St, Newtown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown Saturday June 4th at 1:00pm. Interment in Newtown Village Cemetery will follow. A reception will be held at a place to be announced. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jim’s life.
